Summer Mission Trip
I wanted to share this letter with you that I have already sent out to many family and friends.
Dear Family & Friends,
I hope 2012 has started off well for you. The year has started of good for Lee and me. I would like to tell you about how God has been working in my life recently and about how it has led me to an exciting opportunity in the new year.
Five years ago, I was beginning my second semester in college. I had finally decided to pursue a degree in elementary education. I probably hoped to graduate and move back to the Headland area where I’d get a teaching job and maybe rent an apartment or house with a friend. However, God had different plans for me. He brought Lee into my life and Lee had been called into the ministry. He also felt God calling him to seminary in North Carolina. Needless to say, God changed my plans. Lee and I have now been in North Carolina for a year and a half. God has shown us both so much during this time. While serving as the youth pastor, Lee has had the opportunity to lead the church in planning an international mission trip. For many years, I have had the desire to go on this type of mission trip. However, I’ve also always had reservations about it. I let fear of the unknown hold me back. God has been showing me recently, though, that his message is for all people in all nations. It is our job to take his message to others, whether it is our next-door neighbor or a person in another country. Jesus tells us in the gospel of Matthew that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. I have no excuse not to be a worker.
So, from June 16 to June 23, I will be going on a mission trip with Theresa Baptist Church to the Yucatan Peninsula to work with the Mayan people. I will have the opportunity to experience a culture completely different from my own. I will have the opportunity to serve the Mayan people through children’s ministry, construction projects, and street evangelism. Most importantly, I will have the opportunity to share the love of God and his message with others. I’m sharing this with you because I need your help. I would like to ask you to pray for me and the rest of the group going on this trip. Pray that God will be working in our lives and preparing us for the task ahead. Pray that we will have safety during our trip. Pray for the Mayan people to be open and receptive to God’s message. Pray that God will reveal to the group how we can most effectively use our time and resources while in the Yucatan. Pray also that this trip will change our hearts and help us to see people and love people the way God sees and loves them.
If you feel led, another way you can be involved is to help provide financial support. As you know, this kind of trip can be costly. Donations can be mailed to Theresa Baptist Church at 3919 Chub Lake Road Roxboro, NC 27574. Be sure to include "Megan Hall Yucatan Mission Trip" on the check. If you would like to know more about our trip and the organization we will be working with, you can visit www.dcimissiontrips.com. While there, be sure to check out the videos section.
When I return from my trip, I want you to know the fruits of your prayers and generosity. I want to share my experience with you. I will send you another letter after the trip telling you what God did through our work and your prayers. Then, I hope you will join me in praising God for the work that I know he is going to do in the Mayan people’s lives as well as in our lives.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and for partnering with me in making this trip possible.
God Bless!
Megan

30 Days Until You Turn 30
I decided to have a countdown of ‘30 Days Until You Turn 30.’ The exact details changed a few times, but this is what I ended up doing:
One of Lee’s primary love languages is words of affirmation. I know that I don’t do the best job with this, so I wanted to include encouraging words in my countdown. On January 11, I gave Lee a gift and an index card telling him one reason that I love him. This continued for the next 29 days. Every day, he awoke to find a gift and an index card with a new reason that I love him. The gifts weren’t anything big, extravagant, or expensive. A couple of them were even free. Most of the gifts were things Lee uses or would have bought anyway. The cards were also a gift in and of themselves. Once Lee received all 30 cards, I clipped them together with a ring and made a book out of them. Now he can always look back and read 30 reasons that I love him.
Now, I must admit that there were times that I wondered what I had gotten myself into. Thirty is a pretty big number when you’re trying to get 30 gifts and write out 30 encouraging cards. In the end, I think it turned out great! I had a lot of fun doing it and I think it made his birthday more special and it gave him something to look forward to each day. We also got to celebrate him for a whole month!
Now his birthday has passed and I wanted to share my idea with you. Below are some pictures of Lee’s ’30 Days Until You Turn 30’ countdown:
